Health and Wellbeing Month 2020
October is Mental Health Month and Safe Work Month in NSW.
At UNSW it will be Health and Wellbeing Month and there are special events and activities for staff all through the month! For students, please visit the Mental Health Month website here.
We have mental health webinars, fitness classes, cooking demonstrations, personal nutrition consultations and weekly meditation classes available.
Thanks to our partners at the Health Promotions Unit, we are also able to offer you three special webinars - "Worried About Anxiety?", "Food. Mood. Free Choice?" and "The Imposters".
We also have a survey for you - the UNSW Medicine Cultural Diversity Working Group is inviting UNSW staff to take a survey about work quality and discrimination, satisfaction with life and psychological distress. The survey is open to full-time, part-time and casual staff and can be completed here. There is a chance to win a $50 Coles/Myer gift card!
Worried About Anxiety?
Life can be stressful and we all worry sometimes, but how much worry is okay?
Dr Alanya Drummond shares her experience of living with anxiety, the impacts of worrying too much and ways that worry can be managed.
This will be a Teams Live event to be held on Monday 19 October from 12pm-1pm.

Cook-along Cooking Demonstrations
Have you ever watched a cooking demonstration and wished you got to eat the meal at the end? Well, now you can! These online cooking demonstrations will be run as a 'cook-along', so that you can prepare the meal at home at the same time as the demonstrator!
Recipes will be provided in advance so you can have all the ingredients ready to go. Two cook-along demonstrations will be held in October:
- On Wednesday 14 October from 1pm-2pm, our demonstrator Robbie will show you how to cook Chili Sin Carne.
- On Tuesday 27 October from 12pm-1pm, Robbie will show you how to cook Tuna & Vegetable Pasta.

Food. Mood. Free Choice?
We all know the role that diet plays in our physical health, but is there a connection between our mood and overall wellbeing? Do we really have free choice over our food choices in Australia?
Explore these questions with the leading researchers in the field - Professor Felice Jacka, Director of the Food & Mood Centre at Deakin University, and Dr Alexandra Jones, Research Fellow in Food Policy and Law at The George Institute.
This will be an online event held on Wednesday 21 October from 11am-12pm.
